About Your Custom Horse Portrait Commission
Each custom horse portrait commission is developed individually in oil, with close attention to character, expression, and the reference photographs you provide.
I also accept a limited number of pet and human portrait commissions when the subject and project align naturally with my work.
Each painting is developed by hand in oil — no reproductions, no outsourcing.
This is a deliberate process shaped by light, structure, and presence.

An original oil painting on canvas
-

The Process
1 — Inquiry & References
Submit the commission inquiry form with your preferred size, reference photographs, and any details that are important to the painting.
2 — Proposal & Deposit
After reviewing your inquiry, I will confirm the scope, price, and anticipated timeline. A 30% deposit secures your commission and reserves your place in the studio schedule.
3 — Composition & Painting
Once the commission is scheduled, I begin developing the composition and painting. Reference details, likeness, structure, light, and overall character are carefully considered throughout the process.
4 — Progress Review
At approximately 70–80% completion, I will share a progress update for your review. Once the direction is confirmed, the 40% progress payment is due before the final refinements are completed.
5 — Final Review & Delivery
When the painting is complete, the final 30% payment is due before pickup, delivery, or shipping. The artwork is then prepared with a protective surface finish and carefully packaged when shipment is required.
Investment
Equine portraits begin at $750 for one horse at approximately 16 × 20 in.
Select pet portraits begin at $600, and human portraits begin at $900.
Multiple-subject and special compositions are quoted individually.
Final pricing depends on canvas size, number of subjects, composition, background, and overall complexity.
Once the scope, price, and timeline are confirmed, a 30% deposit reserves your place in the studio schedule. A 40% progress payment is due at approximately 70–80% completion, following your progress review. The final 30% is due before pickup, delivery, or shipping.
Only 2–3 commissions are accepted each month.
FAQ
How long does a commission take?
Most commissioned oil paintings are completed and ready for delivery within approximately 8–12 weeks after the reference photographs, composition direction, and deposit have been confirmed. Larger or more complex paintings may require additional time.
Will the painting look exactly like the photograph?
The work is guided by observation and artistic interpretation in oil. The aim is presence and character rather than photographic replication.
When is varnish applied?
A protective surface finish is applied prior to delivery. If a traditional final varnish is desired, it may be added after the painting has had sufficient time to cure.
Do you ship internationally?
International shipping may be available depending on the destination. Shipping arrangements and costs are confirmed during the proposal stage.
